Violent Armed Robbery Leaves One Dead In Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Source: Boca Raton Police Department) — On Sunday, November 1st at 6:13 p.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a robbery at the Addison Event Center, 2 East Camino Real.
The victim, Matthew Wilson, told officers he is the valet for the Addison and was sitting in his car in the parking lot near the valet stand when he saw two black males walking westbound towards his car.  Wilson asked the males if he could help them when one of the males pointed a semi-automatic handgun at him and ordered him to the ground.  The suspect demanded Wilson’s belongings and he gave the suspect his iPhone and his car keys.  The second suspect went to the valet stand and took a set of keys belonging to a 2016 grey Ford Mustang.  The suspects got into the Mustang and drove away eastbound on SE 11th Street.  Wilson was not injured. The Mustang was entered into the system as stolen.
Detectives responded, interviewed the victim and were able to track the phone to Deerfield Beach. With the assistance of members with the Broward Sheriff’s Office they located the phone, which a passerby found apparently discarded on the grass of a yard.
At 11:21 p.m., a Boca Raton Police officer was patrolling in the area of 1400 NW 2nd Avenue when he observed the stolen Mustang.  The officer requested additional units to assist him and he began to follow the Mustang as it headed south on NW 2nd Avenue.  Before officers could initiate a traffic stop, the Mustang drove away at a high rate of speed.  The Mustang was several blocks ahead of the officers when it crashed into a Silver Honda Pilot, which was traveling east on Palmetto Park Road through the intersection of NW 2nd Avenue.  The Mustang stopped a short distance south of the intersection.
The passenger of the Mustang, identified as Jacquan Strowbridge, ran from the Mustang and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit by officers who were heading north on SW 2nd Avenue at the time of the crash.  The driver of the Mustang, a 15 year old, sustained injuries and was transported to the Delray Medical Center. Both the juvenile driver and Strowbridge have violent criminal histories. The driver of the Honda Pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case.  The Boca Raton Police officers involved in this incident were placed on administrative leave, consistent with Department policy.
